Discord Nitro is the premium subscription tier for Discord Inc.'s messenger, launched in January 2017 and expanded with the cheaper Nitro Basic plan in October 2022. It is not a game currency or a UID top-up: the subscription attaches to a Discord account through a single-use 19-character gift code redeemed inside Gift Inventory. As of spring 2026 the line-up has two live tiers — Nitro Basic at $2.99/month and full Nitro at $9.99/month — while Nitro Classic, retired in October 2022, is no longer available to new subscribers. The Brawl Games catalogue lists three codes: Nitro Basic 1 Month, Nitro 1 Month and Nitro 1 Year.

Nitro Basic vs full Nitro: what actually changes

Nitro Basic costs $2.99/month and replaced Classic — it is a scaled-down tier, not "discounted Nitro" as it is often misread. Basic gives you custom and animated emoji on every server, 50 MB uploads, a custom profile colour, the Nitro badge, two Super Reactions per week and custom mobile app icons. What Basic does not include: no 500 MB uploads, no HD streaming above 720p, no animated avatar or banner, no profile themes, no Avatar Decorations, no 4,000-character messages, no custom Soundboard uploads, no Server Boosts and no 30% discount on buying them. Full Nitro at $9.99/month covers all of the above and adds priority support and five Super Reactions per week. If you need files larger than 50 MB, 1080p60 or 4K streaming, server boosting or an animated profile, Basic will not cover those use cases.

Server Boost is a separate product, not Nitro

Server Boost at $4.99 per boost per month is a standalone Discord SKU. It powers up a specific server to Levels 1/2/3: two boosts unlock Level 1 (100 emoji slots, 128 kbps audio, custom invite background), seven boosts unlock Level 2 (150 slots, 256 kbps, server banner, 1080p60 streams for everyone), fourteen unlock Level 3 (250 slots, 384 kbps, a vanity URL and an animated server icon). You can boost a server without holding Nitro at all; full Nitro just bundles two boost slots for free and a 30% discount on the rest. One thing to flag: the Brawl Games Discord Nitro page does not sell Server Boosts — only the three Nitro codes listed above. "Buy Nitro" and "boost a server" are different actions, and a Nitro code does not auto-boost any server; you still spend boost slots on a specific server from inside the Discord client.

The redemption itself is a few clicks:

  1. Open Discord on desktop or in a browser and sign in to your account.
  2. Click the cog next to your username to open User Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar find the Gift Inventory section.
