As of spring 2026 the catalogue covers 100M+ tracks, 5M+ podcasts and 700K+ audiobooks, with playback supported on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, the web player, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox, smart TVs and Spotify Connect speakers from Sonos, Bose, Sennheiser, Sony and Samsung. Gift card vs subscription code: a real distinction
Marketplaces tend to lump them together as "Spotify gift cards", but the two products are not interchangeable. A US gift card credits dollars to your Spotify balance, and Spotify pulls the current monthly Premium Individual fee from that balance once a month. The Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore codes do not top up a balance — they unlock a fixed term of Premium (1, 3 or 6 months) and then expire. Why $12 / $36 / $72 / $120 is no longer 1, 3, 6, 12 months
For years the US gift card ladder mapped exactly onto subscription length: $12 covered one month, $36 covered three, $72 six and $120 a full year — because Premium Individual was priced at $11.99. In January 2026 Spotify raised the US price to $12.99, and the arithmetic broke. A $12 balance now buys roughly 28 days of Premium, and the $120 card lands a little short of a year. Spotify did not redenominate the cards, so the same numbers stay on the shelf. Treat the value as a balance, not as a fixed term — Spotify always charges the live monthly rate, not "one month per card".
Country mismatch: codes are tightly bound to account region
The most common reason a Spotify code fails to redeem is a region mismatch. A US gift card only redeems on a US-registered account; an Indonesia code only on an ID account; the same goes for Malaysia and Singapore. Spotify checks the account country at redemption and returns a "country mismatch" error if they disagree. After four wrong attempts the system locks redemption on that account for 24 hours. You can change the country in account settings, but Spotify will ask for a payment method based in the new country — a local bank card, a local PayPal address or an active subscription code from that region. Lossless audio: what Premium actually includes since September 2025
On 10 September 2025 Spotify rolled out Lossless: 24-bit / 44.1 kHz FLAC, well above the old 320 kbps Ogg Vorbis ceiling. Lossless ships with every Premium plan — Individual, Duo, Family and Student — across 50+ markets at no extra cost, although it has to be turned on manually in audio quality settings. Premium Platinum and Premium Lite: a five-market story
On 13 November 2025 Spotify introduced two new tiers — Premium Platinum and Premium Lite — but only in five markets: India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and South Africa. In those countries Platinum is the only path to lossless audio (the regular Premium tier does not get it there) and adds an AI DJ, AI Playlist creation, deeper playlist mixing and the ability to bring two additional accounts onto the plan. Premium Lite goes the other way: ad-free, but capped at 160 kbps with no offline downloads. Neither tier can be activated through gift cards or subscription codes — every Spotify code on the market still applies only to Premium Individual. Audiobooks in Premium: where they ship and where they do not
Audiobooks are baked into Premium as a monthly hour quota: 15 hours per month in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and 12 hours per month in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. November 2025 added Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Monaco. The catalogue covers 700,000 titles and unused hours do not roll over into the next month. Important caveat for regional code buyers: audiobooks are not included in Premium for Indonesia, Malaysia or Singapore, so an ID, MY or SG code will not unlock them even on a perfectly working account. If audiobooks are the reason you subscribe, you need an account registered in one of the markets above and a matching payment method.
Family and Duo: address verification and the single-code limit
Premium Family covers up to 6 accounts at one physical address; Premium Duo covers 2. Spotify periodically reverifies location through IP, Wi-Fi and approximate device geolocation. The direct GPS prompt tested in 2018 was rolled back, but indirect checking stayed on — accounts that regularly sign in from different cities or countries can be flagged and removed from the plan. Plan type changes between Family and Duo are limited to once a year. Gift cards and subscription codes cannot be applied to Family, Duo, Student, Platinum or Lite — Spotify allows redemption on Premium Individual only, and that rule has no exceptions.
Spotify and players in regions with limited local card support
For listeners in regions where Spotify pulled official support and where local Visa, MasterCard and similar cards are no longer accepted, the practical path through 2026 is an account originally registered in a CIS, EU or Southeast Asian country combined with a rotation of subscription codes from that region. The app itself still installs and plays without a VPN in most cases, but new accounts cannot be created locally and locally-issued cards do not pass the payment screen.
